"Will This Work For Me?"

As a Certified Health and Lifestyle Coach, people often ask me whether the latest diet product “works”.  The Diet and Nutrition industry is a $20 billion dollar business. It is estimated that there are 100 million dieters in the world. Experts introduce new books, eating plans, exercise systems, surgeries, pills, shakes and supplements that promise quick, easy and effortless weight loss, boundless energy and restored health. Many programs even pay celebrities to endorse their product to boost sales. 
 
This time of year is primetime for the diet industry to rush their products into stores, infomercials, internet ads and print.  It’s no wonder America is suffering from ‘nutrition confusion’! Which diet plan works for me? Will this pill really make my stomach flat? Will I have more energy by drinking this shake?  The truth is there is no single diet that works for everyone.  When in doubt, ask yourself these questions:
  • IS IT NATURAL? Your body is a natural organism that thrives on substances grown from nature. That’s how we were created. So when you read the ingredients on a nutrition label, ask yourself if the ingredients are natural. Your body simply will not be nourished by artificial, chemical or synthetic substances for the long-term.  It craves simple, whole foods to feel loved and nourished.
  • IS IT AFFORDABLE? Do you feel like you are receiving value from this product? Is it affordable over the next six months?  Are you seeing results?
  • IS IT SUSTAINABLE? Can you continue with this shake, tea, pills, eating or exercise system for three months? Six months? a year from now? Do you feel shame for using these products? Is it hard to use these products when eating with friends or family? Do you feel satisfied?
  • DOES IT FEEL RIGHT? How do you feel physically and emotionally when you use this product? Does it feel like the right decision for your body or are you feeling fatigue? experiencing heartburn or sore joints? mood swings? sleeplessness? Acne breakout? Your body may be sending you signals to make a change.  Listen to your body.
 
If the answer to any of these questions is no, then your product isn’t worth the time, effort or energy you are investing in it. The answer to your discontentment may be to experiment with different eating plans that nourish your mind, body and soul. Stop looking externally for diet solutions and quick fixes with pills, shakes, supplements – and look within for answers.  Seek trusted information, encouragement and support for long-term success.
