10 Practical Ways to Create Personal Peace

10/17/2015

Have you noticed how the media seems to be slinging around phrases like "cultivate inner peace" and "strive for personal peace". What does this mean? Personal peace simply means feeling peaceful, calm, satisfied with yourself.

However, personal peace isn't a once-and-done deal. Personal peace is an ongoing  practice.  Gymnasts don't become gold medal winners by just showing up to the meet, they must hone their skills, and practice their routine repeatedly for best results. Personal peace requires the same commitment and dedication.

Try these 10 practical ways to create personal peace through being....

be ALONE: practice solitude. Pray, meditate, journal, enjoy nature, take a digital detox.

be ENOUGH: practice contentment. Repeat this mantra before you get out of bed each morning: “I do enough, I have enough, I am enough”.

be GRATEFUL: practice gratitude. Appreciate yourself, your body, loved ones, finances, surroundings.

be HAPPY: practice joy. Make time to do what you love, and love what you do. Hobbies, talents, serve, learn something new. And spend time with people who make you smile.

be KIND: practice respect. Love yourself and others unconditionally.

be ORGANIZED: practice control. Make a meal plan, create a budget, make a shopping list, organize a family calendar, establish an itinerary for vacation. One of my favorite authors, Gretchen Rubin, says “Outer order contributes to inner calm”. So true!

be NOURISHED: practice extreme self-care.  Eat well, sleep well, move well.

be PRESENT: practice patience. Slow down, relax, trust yourself. Enjoy the power of NOW. Be single-minded – no multi-tasking.

be POSITIVE: practice positivity. Seek joy, surround yourself with positive and supportive people. Minimize or eliminate difficult relationships. Do satisfying things.

be YOURSELF!: practice authenticity. Know who you are, and who you aren’t.  Always take steps to know yourself better, strive for personal excellence.

Take action this week by practicing at least one of these thoughts to improve peace within yourself. Peace be with you my friend.
